The Amazing Caine Has Been Asked To Teach At The College Of Marin

The Amazing Caine has been asked to teach an 8-week course on Magic and Illusion for the College of Marin as a part of their Community Education curriculum for fall 2010.

The Amazing Caine has drafted the course outline entitled, “Magic As A Lifestyle” and has submitted the information to the community education director for approval. Once the course outline has been approved, there will be a formal interview in front of a college review board.

If the review board finds The Amazing Caine to be favorable, then the class will be available for fall 2010 enrollment.

The Amazing Caine has also spoken with Ellusionist.com and Murphy’s Magic supply in the hopes of acquiring “sponsorship” for the class. To date, both Ellusionist and Murphy’s have initially agreed to provide some assistance.

More information regarding this class with be posted as soon as it has become available. Stay tuned. There’s more to come!

The Amazing Caine Has Joined The Pocket Testament League

As many of you are aware, The Amazing Caine performs for both Christian and non-Christian venues.

When The Amazing Caine is asked to perform for churches, youth groups, and other ministry-based outreach events, The Amazing Caine turns his magic show into an opportunity to share the hope and the joy that comes from knowing Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.

The Pocket Testament League provides The Amazing Caine with pocket-sized books of The Gospel of John (from the New Testament) to hand out as gifts to spectators during his show. The Amazing Caine feels that there is no better way to wrap up the sharing of one’s faith than by giving someone God’s word.

The Amazing Caine also recognizes the fact that by performing for Christian-based venues might limit his opportunities to perform in secular venues based on the fact that many people might suspect that The Amazing Caine’s ulterior motive is to preach about Christianity.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. While performing for non-Christian venues, the performances are strictly mainstream/secular in nature without any “religious agenda”. The Amazing Caine believes in providing the services that are requested without any hidden political or religious agenda.

One thing to keep in mind however; and The Amazing Caine feels this is a bonus to any secular venue as well as Christian venues — Because The Amazing Caine makes every attempt to abide by the Christian tenants of faith, you are assured to receive a class-act without profanity, offensive or suggestive material. In The Amazing Caine’s book, this is just good business ethics and ultimately creates a much more pleasant atmosphere for everyone involved.

Up To Code

amazingcaine_qr_codeQR Codes seem to be one of the latest forms of transmitting information such as email addresses, web site addresses, phone numbers, and a whole slew of other relevant information.

QR Codes are extremely poluar in Japan, but they are slowly making their way into the United States. For people who have “smart phones” with a QR Code scanner, they can import these images into their cell phone and decipher the info contained therein. QR Codes can even be shared between friends.

In an attempt to be universally available, The Amazing Caine now has his own QR Code. If you have a cell phone capable of capturing and deciphering a QR Code (such as an Apple iPhone), take a photo of the large QR Code and you’ll have The Amazing Caine’s contact details with you at all times. Feel free to pass it along to your friends as well!

Let’s give them something to laugh about – Comedy gold at the Chit Chat

Let’s give them something to laugh about – Comedy gold at the Chit Chat
By Jean Bartlett – ARTS CORRESPONDENT
Ran October 1, 2008
Original Article >>

In these see-saw economic times where hysterical laughter is more the order of the day, what a pleasure to sit back and find out that today’s blues are often Saturday night’s elbow nudges.

This past Saturday night, writer, journalist, painter, actress and comic Lynn Ruth Miller co-produced and presented quite a few belly laugh servings at her ‘Lynn Ruth Miller’s Comedy Workout Room’ at the Chit Chat Café. Co-produced by theater, film and TV producer, director and actor David Guilmette, Miller invited Bay Area club headliners to roll out the red carpet on their new material to a savvy audience that came to have a good time (and did). Comics under the high beams were Dan Edwards, Samson Koletkar, Caine Hörr the Magician, Ken Koskella, Doug Ferrari and Lynn Ruth Miller. Dan Edwards also served as MC.

Before show time, there was already festiveness in the air. What’s not to like at a cozy and hip local spot where you can order such satisfiers as a good foaming latte or a hot BBQ pork sandwich. Or maybe you want a seafood salad, or a pastrami sandwich or a mouth watering bagel – and this is the short side of the chalk board menu. There’s chardonnay, merlot, Anchor Steam, hot chocolate, white mocha and a friendly staff – there are all kinds of beneficial reasons to find yourself pulling up a chair at Amy Kulkiela’s Chit Chat Café on Manor (Kukielka also runs the Chit Chat at the Pier). Toss in some talented comics and you’ve got smart-headed good times firing from all barrels.

Fortunately the evening’s MC, comic Dan Edwards escaped from a life in corporate America to do standup comedy. The only time now Edwards can even be caught in business casual is when he wears his underwear to go pick up his morning paper. Often a guest on South Bay 94.5 KBAY Kirk and Lissa Morning Show, Edwards is ‘casual’ classic, a Bob Newhart-like college professor, calmly reflecting on the idiocy of various news events and/or individuals without ever using the word ‘idiocy.’

Originally from Mumbai and now a resident of San Francisco, comic Samson Koletkar is progressively irreverent, able to give the audience good double-take laughs over things like, racism. Often referred to as the Indian Seinfeld, Koletkar rapid fired his observations on some of the muddle-headed thinking that he sees ‘America’ delivering to the world. He’s edgy and tempered a bit by good-natured goofiness.

More amicable magician than comic, Caine Hörr made everyone think he could hide an egg under his armpit, (don’t try that at home without a spatula and a good detergent), but in actuality he hid it in plain sight. He also pulled a ring through a knotted rope, made a rope rabbit and hid a card from his deck on the back of an insurance policy. The Café setup made it hard for the people in the back to see all his tricks so he brought his magic to them – a magician truly with all the right things up his sleeve.

Comic Ken Koskella retired from the business world but he doesn’t want his wife to know it. In case she showed up his audience agreed to tell her we were there to buy shares. Still business primed in suit and tie, Koskella might look like a broker but I think he’s really Stephen Colbert’s father. The fact that he looks too dignified to be knee-slapping funny is an illusion shattered 10 seconds into his comedy routine.

Comic Doug Ferrari rocketed to the top of the comedy scene in the 80s, got bit by alcoholism, drug addiction and an untreated mental disorder and ended up homeless in San Francisco. Long clean and sober with a roof over his head, Ferrari is now on a ‘mission from God to make people laugh’ as well as do what he can to bring funding relief to such organizations as the San Francisco Suicide Prevention Hotline and the National Institute of Mental Health. This funny man held his audience in the palms of his hands and made us laugh out loud about the foibles of being human.

75-year-old entertainer Lynn Ruth Miller had plenty of things to say about the dating life of people over 70. But this septuagenarian better look to the 30-year-old crowd for that part of her life because they might be the only ones fast enough to catch her. Not just another pretty face on the comedy circuit, although she is pretty darn cute, Miller carries her sense of humor with her like Columbus carried his compass, and she never loses sight of a good time.

Special kudos to pianist, composer Larry Dunlap for penning the Lynn Ruth closing song that reminds everyone to dream. Additionally a huge round of applause goes to Miller and Guilmette for making it all happen and Amy Kulkiela for inviting comedy in from the cold and giving us all a place to laugh.

Next group of comedians that Miller is bringing to the Chit Chat Café will arrive on the 25th of October. See www.thecomedyworkoutroom.com for details.

The Amazing Caine Meets Brad Christian (Ellusionist.com), Tim Trono (Murphy’s Magic Supply), and Paul Harris (Master Magician)

DSC00001

Brad Christian, The Amazing Caine, and Paul Harris

The date was Saturday, January 24th, 2009. I was invited to a special kick-off dinner event hosted in San Rafael, CA by Brad Christian (founder of Ellusionist.com), Tim Trono (Murphy’s Magic Supply) and Paul Harris for Paul’s latest brainchild product, the “True Astonishments” DVD collection.

That evening, there were 13 lucky contestants who had won seats to the dinner through a contest held by Ellusionist, Tim Trono and Murphy’s Magic Supply, and Paul Harris. I however was not one of the lucky winners. In fact, I never even entered the contest! It was by sheer luck and the grace and giving nature of another Ellusionist forum member that afforded me this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Thanks to Ellusionist forum member FEADOG333 (Mark McPhee) , I was able to attend this special, private gathering. Mark McPhee could not attend due to the fact that he lived in Oregon and because of personal reasons.

In return, I went as Mark’s personal attaché if you will. My job was simple – to enjoy myself and to report back to Mark everything I could regarding the event.

I did one better!

At the end of the event, Ellusionist, with the help of Murphy’s Magic gave out gift bags filled with all sorts of extra Paul Harris goodies (including some previously, unreleased material). Some how, there was one gift bag too many. I spoke with Brad and at my request, the remaining gift bag was sent to Mark as a token of my appreciation.

Later that evening, many of the forum members, myself included, along with Tim Trono and Paul Harris went out for ice cream and coffee in downtown San Rafael. We hung out for several hours. Paul Harris performed his moved called the “simple switch” (believe me when I say it’s not so simple!) and many of us began performing for the patrons of the ice cream parlor.

On Monday, January 26, 2009, myself and one other forum member (Zack) drove out to Murphy’s Magic Supply in Rancho Cordova, CA by way of invitation from Tim Trono. Zack and I received a guided tour of the warehouse as well as receiving some additional Paul Harris media. After our tour, we went up stairs to the conference room where we were joined by Paul Harris for a private, one-on-one conversation. After about an hour or so, we said our thank yous and good byes.

The next day, I met up with Zack in San Francisco and gave him a tour of Misdirections Magic Shop located at 1236 9th Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94122 and the Houdini’s Magic Shop at the famous Pier 39 where we ended up meeting fellow magii Jesse Feinberg. Jesse was another gracious individual who kicked down some of his personal magical creations to Zack and myself.

This was definitely an event to remember. Brad is an amazing gentleman. Paul Harris is an astounding magician as well as a a thought provoking magical philosopher and creator. Tim Trono is tremendously gracious and giving as well.

Most importantly, my sincerest thanks go out to Mark McPhee for giving me the opportunity to attend such a fantastic event that led to a complete week-long magical journey! It wouldn’t have happened without Mark’s gift!

I also give much thanks to Brad Christian and Ellusionist for being generous and kind enough to act upon my suggestion and send the remaining gift bag to Mark. He truly deserved it!

Special thanks go out to Jesse Feinberg for the complimentary, color-changing “Alpha Cards.”

I can’t thank everyone enough!
